THE BRANKOVSKY TENNIS SCHOOL

TENNIS & CHILDREN

The Smart Starter paddle racquet is the best tennis racquet for children and beginners ever invented.
Children will derive the following long term benefits by using the Smart Starter:

  • Teaches good basic forehand, one-handed backhand, volley, lob and smash and efficient, aggressive all-court tennis game from the beginning
  • Supports learning of proper stroke technique
  • Assists young children to manipulate the racquet in a controlled manner
  • Allows children to guide the ball with a firm wrist
  • Reduces instances of tennis related injuries

As toddlers, children should learn the sense of the ball first. They should then begin using the Smart Starter paddle racquet between the ages of 6 – 9.

Why you might ask?
The Smart Starter paddle racquet is short and made of wood with no strings! This allows children to guide the ball with a firm wrist and learn the flat strokes with better timing. Since it is short, children do not have to fight it and because the ball does not bounce off it, they must learn to guide the ball.

"Smart Starter paddles can assist young children to manipulate the racquet in a controlled manor. It also promotes a stable wrist, which is important for the development of fundamentals."

- Tennis Professional Association of Canada

You must play with an old, soft ball that is not bouncy – they are easy to find and you might have plenty of them yourself. Parents should also use the Smart Starter when playing with their children and their stroke will also improve.

Available Materials to teach children:
Instructional Video - Back to Basics: Tennis and Your Child - to see how to systematically teach the next generation of tennis players. The process begins with the Smart Starter paddle racquet through to the Gradual Length Method (GLM) and finally to a racquet size that is suitable for their age. The Gradual Length Method uses Wilson string racquets (19, 21 and 23 inch) to bridge the gap between the Smart Starter paddle racquet and proper sized racquets. It contains everything parents and instructors should know about the best teaching and learning tool: the Smart Starter paddle racquet.

In order to receive the full benefits of the video you should also purchase the Instructional Manual - Smart Starter for Smart Tennis Starter - a small, portable booklet that compliments the video. These two resources should be used together.

A strong wrist allows this
child to use the proper

The Smart Starter should be used on a mini court.
Mini Tennis tournaments can be staged using the service field of a tennis court which is the right size for it.

On a mini court, children can play forehand, backhand, serve, volley, lob or smash. These strokes are prerequisites for a strong and aggressive tennis game in their future. Later, these kids develop into very good tennis players with an all-court game. They will be less injury prone, skillful and technically well prepared for their future tennis careers – be it for professional level competition or for lifelong enjoyment.

The Smart Starter paddle racquet can only be purchased from the Brankovsky Tennis School and is available for purchase freom this website.
