The town has been a UNESCO-listed site since 1992. </strong></p> <p>The heyday of this picturesque town is associated with the rule of the feudal Ro~mberk family (1302 1602) who made Ceský Krumlov their family residence. Krumlov was then situated at the crossroads between the Bohemian lands to the north and northern Italy, Austria, Bavaria and the Danube to the south. Its location had a profound effect on the face of both the town and the chateau which decidedly belongs to the Italian Renaissance era. At the end of the 17th century, during the rule of the Eggenberg family, the Baroque theatre was built and the chateau gardens established. The next lords of the manor, the Schwarzenbergs, gave Krumlov its Baroque ornamentation. A fine example of South Bohemian Gothic architecture, the Church of St Vitus, dominates the skyline. The huge chateau complex is the second largest in the Czech Republic after Prague Castle. This historical residence, which once belonged to the Ro~mberk family, includes many buildings, the famous Masquerade Hall, the unique Baroque theatre, the chateau gardens with a Rococo fountains and the Bellarie Summer Palace with a revolving stage  a venue for summer theatre performances.</p> <p>Ceský Krumlov isn t just about 300 historical buildings. The special atmosphere of the town is enriched by numerous cultural events which have become renowned across the world. The Ceský Krumlov International Music Festival, the Festival of Ancient Music and the summer Five-petalled Rose Celebrations all take place here. Another important cultural milestone was the foundation of the Egon Schiele Art Centre.
