From here, St. Paul, the Apostle of the Nations, spread the Word of Christianity. Dimitrios, a Roman officer, was martyred, becoming Thessalonica’s patron saint (303).

Landmarks:
The Arch of Galerius and the Rotunda. Agia Sofia, the Ahiropitos, Ossios David, the Vlatadon Monastery, Agios Dimitrios, Profitis Ilias, Agios Nikolaos.

Churches
The Ahiropiitos: A large, Early Christian church built in the 5th century with mosaics of amazing beauty.
Latomos Monastery: Early Christian church of the  late 5th century. Its mosaics represent "the glory of the Lord' or "the vision of Ezekiel" are renowned.  Agios Dimitrios: Restored in 1948 after having been destroyed by the fire of 1918, in conformation with its original plan as a five-aisled basilica.Agios Nikolaos Orfanos: 14th century, with superb frescoes.Profitis Ilias: Built in 1360 by Makarios Houmnos.
